Days out mean one thing - ice creams all round! Whether you are heading for the beach, the countryside or the city there will always be an ice cream opportunity - one of my favourite vendors just has to be this ice cream boat on the Norfolk Broads.
Another favourite vendor will be found on the fashionable shopping streets of London - the Belgian chocolatiers Godiva have launched a soft ice cream that brings soft scoop (or squirt) back into fashion. I can so remember walking into my first Godiva experience in Brussels about 25 years ago. Only high-end retailers like Fortnums, Harrods and Selfridges had anything like that sort of chocolate counter at the time and the display made my jaw drop and my taste buds tingle.
What Godiva bring to ice cream is their trademark rich, sweet, fragrant and slightly nutty textured style of chocolate. It works, especially in the crisp biscuits cones although tubs are also available. Choose your "holder", your ice cream and then your sprinkles and sauces. I have to admit that at this point I would usually bow out: sprinkles and I do not mix. However, at a recent Bloggers event at Godiva in Regent Street I was forced to reconsider as I watched eager ice cream lovers spoon sauces, flakes and delicious tiny crisp chocolate enrobed pearls of what I imagine to be honeycomb over their designer sundaes. Sceptical to the first mouthful I realised that there is more to sprinkles than sugar strands: the Crispy Mini-Pearls did it for me. A perfect gift from an ice cream day out in London!
