MoonBeams #13: Whiskies with peppers: summer foods and summer drinking

Rosemary catches up with whisky drinking pepper grower Gerard Vonk at Tangmere Airfield Nurseries and finds that whiskies and peppers go really well together.

Tangmere Airfield Nurseries has grown over 27 years to cover 30 hectares (about 75 acres) of the old Battle of Britain Airfield at Tangmere, West Sussex, UK. They have 850,000 plants under glass, each of which throws three fruiting stems to produce 60-65 million peppers  year for the UK market.  It is a LEAF demonstration farm, one of the first under glass, and regularly welcomes groups to see the glasshouses and bio-diversity areas. Jules Hudson visited Tangmere Airfield Nurseries earlier this year and filmed for an edition of Escape to the Country, to be shown on BBC1 this autumn, probably in September.

Dewar’s Aultmore distillery is not open to the public but their Aberfeldy distillery in Perthshire has a Visitor Centre.
